PHAKIC LENS IMPLANT

I have a vision defect, I am short-sighted, and I wear glasses, does it always have to be like this?

No.

To eliminate the need to wear glasses, there are several options: laser vision correction, refractive lens replacement or phakic lens implantation.

What does this procedure involve?

During the qualifying visit, the doctor performing the phakic lens implantation procedure analyzes the measurement results and, in consultation with the patient, selects the appropriate lens. During the procedure under local anesthesia in the operating room, the phakic lens is inserted behind the iris of the eye, just in front of the patient’s own lens.  The phakic lens corrects the vision defect, while the intact natural lens retains the ability to accommodate, which enables reading. It is worth noting that the procedure is reversible – the implanted lens can be successfully removed.

Who is this treatment recommended for?

Phakic lenses are produced in various powers to correct myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. They are most often used in patients with larger defects that do not qualify for laser correction. Contraindications include cataracts, glaucoma, presbyopia and too shallow anterior chamber of the eye. This is when, due to the structure of the eye, the doctor recommends replacing the lens.
