REFRACTIVE LENS REPLACEMENT

IT IS A PROCEDURE TO CORRECT VISION DEFECTS, WHICH IS AIMED TO ALLOW THE PATIENT TO GET FREE FROM GLASSES.

This is a procedure that corrects vision defects and allows the patients to free themselves from glasses. Vision defects are most often caused by eye structure disorders, such as an eyeball that is too long, a cornea that is too flat, and others. There may be many causes, but the most common are congenital defects. To improve vision, the patient is forced to wear glasses or contact lenses.

WHO CAN THIS TREATMENT BE FOR?

Patients with vision defects, farsightedness, myopia and astigmatism who want to get rid of glasses will benefit the most from the procedure. We are more likely to qualify people with presbyopia who need to use reading glasses. We consider this procedure when laser correction of vision defects is contraindicated. In patients with initial cataract changes, i.e. clouding of the lens or presbyopia, refractive lens replacement is the preferred choice.

WHAT IS REFRACTIVE LENS REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE?

Refractive lens replacement involves removing the patient’s own lens and implanting an artificial lens with a power adjusted to the size of the patient’s eye. This procedure is similar to cataract surgery, i.e. replacing the cloudy lens with an artificial one. Refractive lens replacement involves the transparent natural lens, which is removed in order to change the optical power and compensate for the vision defect.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia in the operating room after selecting the appropriate artificial lens for the patient. The choice is always personalized, each patient is different and requires a different approach.
